Handle with Heart: How to care for your hand-dyed garment
Because this piece was patiently dyed by hand by rural women artisans using traditional methods, it requires gentle care to protect the depth of its colors and the integrity of the natural fibers.
For the very first wash, soak the garment in cold water mixed with a handful of rock salt for 10–15 minutes. This helps set the traditional dyes and minimizes future color bleeding.
Hand-dyed fabrics may release excess dye during the first few washes. Always wash this garment separately or with like colors in cold water. We highly recommend a gentle hand wash.
Avoid harsh chemical detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners. Use a mild, pH-neutral liquid detergent (like a silk/wool wash or eco-friendly detergent) to keep the colors from fading.
Gently squeeze out excess water. Twisting or wringing the fabric can distort the hand-tied patterns and stress the natural threads.
Never tumble dry. Direct sunlight will fade hand-dyed artisanal colors quickly. Turn the garment inside out and dry it flat or hang it in a shaded, airy outdoor area.
Iron the garment inside out on a medium-to-hot setting (depending on the base fabric, like cotton or linen). If the piece has a crinkled or textured Bandhani effect you wish to preserve, use steam without pressing down heavily.
